Henderson mayor outlines priority projects as city prepares to apply for new CDBG, LPRF grants

Mayor Terry F. Bell told the board Nov. 13 that the city's current CDBG grant is nearing completion and the city can apply for another CDBG or a Local Park and Recreation Fund (LPRF) grant.
Bell proposed several candidate projects for community input: replace the water main at West Main; fire‑safety enhancements focused on substandard lines and ensuring hydrants can handle pressure; and sidewalk walkability upgrades to make deficient stretches ADA‑compliant. Recorder Jim E. Garland said the city will schedule a public hearing at the December meeting and that a community survey will be required for the grant application. Ald. Mark A. Barber said sidewalks are needed on Mifflin Avenue up to Eastgate and emphasized safety concerns.
The board did not make final allocations at the meeting; the item was presented as part of early planning and outreach required for grant eligibility.
