Accountant to Draft Responses After State Flags Budget Variances and Reconciliations

Corinna Hervey, the county accountant, told the Finance Committee on July 8 that the State sent two letters after its audit of the county's year ending June 30, 2025. The first letter requests a Corrective Action Response addressing budget variances, non‑compliance with the Chart of Accounts and untimely bank reconciliations; the second concerns Deficit Elimination Plans (DEPs). Hervey said a DEP will not be required for the Kaliseum but will be required for Dispatch and that the Dispatch DEP should be straightforward to prepare.
The committee asked Hervey to draft responses to the State and present those drafts for authorization at the full Board of Commissioners meeting on July 16, 2025. The committee also agreed Hervey should continue providing financial support to the county while Sheriff Patrick Whiteford begins work as Interim Administrator and learns payroll and billing operations.
