Henderson board approves city gas line to part of Wilson School Road after resident plea
Summary
After a resident described 1,800 feet of private water service and new houses without municipal utilities, the Henderson board voted to run a city gas main down Wilson School Road; water extension remains under study because it would require a six‑inch line and hydraulic engineering.

Mayor Terry F. Bell and the Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted Nov. 13 to run a municipal natural‑gas main down a section of Wilson School Road after resident Jeff McEarl described long-standing gaps in city service.
McEarl told the board that he purchased his property in 1994, built his home in 1997 and installed a private two‑inch water line that runs "some 1,800 feet to his home." He said two adult children are building on the stretch of road that lacks city water and gas and asked the city to extend service to the full length of Wilson School Road.
Utility Director Darryl Green said the city "can run the natural gas main without any issues other than cost," and that with the four possible customers the project would be feasible. He said extending municipal water is more complex: it would require engineering work, hydraulic study and a six‑inch distribution main. McEarl told the board he had installed a two‑inch water line to serve two new homes and was negotiating with the utility department for the city to take over that line.
Following discussion, Ald. Mark A. Barber moved to run the city gas lines down the affected section of Wilson School Road. Ald. Donna R. Butler seconded, and the motion carried.
