Chair Murkowski described S 4 4 1 7 from Senator Padilla as an update to the previously enacted Pechanga settlement to ensure it covers contiguous trust lands and to allow the tribe's water-quality account to support water-quality projects in the Wolf Valley Basin.
"It would ensure that settlement covers contiguous trust lands and allow the tribe's water quality account to support water quality projects in the Wolf Valley Basin," Chair Murkowski said. The measure is focused on clarifying geographic scope and expanding allowable uses of an existing settlement account to support project implementation.
The committee flagged that implementation and funding details — for project scope, eligible expenditures from the water-quality account, and agency responsibilities — would be clarified through testimony and subsequent committee work.
