Commission adopts ordinance updating county transportation plan and adopts TSAP

The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 10 adopted an ordinance amending the county comprehensive plan to incorporate updates to the Transportation System Plan and to adopt the Transportation Safety Action Plan (file 25‑PA‑02). Chair opened the second reading and read the ordinance title before the vote.

Derek Payne, community development director, said the safety plan focuses on a corridor along the highway and “won’t be affecting any other part of the TSP.” The board moved, seconded and voted to adopt the ordinance at the second reading; the chair stated the ordinance will take effect 90 days after adoption. Commissioners offered no further amendments at the hearing.

The adoption is intended to help the county pursue a broader scope of grant funding tied to transportation safety and corridor projects, staff said. The action formalizes prior land‑use decisions and establishes the TSAP as county guidance for the corridor noted in the file. The commission did not provide a separate implementation timetable during the meeting; staff indicated any grant pursuits or project schedules will be handled through subsequent departmental work and grant processes.
