Manistee County reports 193,380-pound increase in recycling for 2025

Smith-Kasten told the committee the county's single-stream program, implemented in 2022, has driven steady growth: the materials report shows monthly totals across 2020–2025 and documents higher collection rates in several summer months. She also said Onekama's bins are now being emptied three times per week to match demand.
The coordinator recommended continued outreach and monitoring to limit contamination and support site operations as volumes grow. Committee members praised the program's trajectory and referenced EGLE education resources as helpful background for planning.
