Commission adopts 2024 fire codes, approves cooperative wildfire agreement, fairgrounds contract and weed grant; signs warrants

Box Elder County adopted the 2024 International Fire Code and the 2024 Wildland-Urban Interface Code, approved a cooperative wildland fire agreement with the state, authorized a fairgrounds horse-pull contract and an $8,500 UWSA weed grant, and signed two warrant registers totaling nearly $1 million in claims.
The Box Elder County Commission on May 27 adopted the 2024 International Fire Code and appendix (Resolution #26-15) and separately adopted the 2024 Wildland-Urban Interface Code with state-referenced amendments (Resolution #26-16). Fire Marshal Kevin Lloyd told the Commission the State adopted the IFC and the county adoption makes the code effective locally July 1, 2026; Deputy Attorney Anne Hansen said the WUIC adoption will be effective January 1, 2027 under state timing.
The Commission also approved Cooperative Agreement #26-22 with the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands describing mutual response and fiscal delegation procedures on large wildland fires, approved Fairgrounds Contract #26-23 with the Utah Horse Pullers Association (event scheduled August 22, 2026 with $5,000 prize money), and approved UWSA Grant Contract #26-24 for $8,500 to support noxious-weed control during 2026. Commissioners signed warrant registers covering claim numbers 129685–129733 ($528,321.20) and 129633–129684 ($461,582.98) with one voided claim number 126123 recorded in the packet.
