Jefferson County commissioners on Oct. 1 approved a card‑lock fueling agreement with Carson Oil that the sheriff’s office says will give deputies more fueling options, reduce mileage and overtime and produce per‑gallon savings for certain vehicles.
Sergeant Toups presented the state contract pricing and pointed to operational benefits observed during recent fires and long patrol routes: card‑lock access near incident sites reduces round trips and attendant overtime costs, and the sheriff’s office will be able to obtain premium fuel for boats and take advantage of tax exemptions where applicable. Toups said the grant‑funded ATV enforcement position will also benefit from more fueling locations.
Commissioners voted to authorize the agreement; staff said the change is intended to increase patrol efficiency and decrease fuel‑related costs over time.
