Fair board bylaws revised; members flag name confusion, request deed and bylaws in next packet

Members of the Manistee County Fair Board reviewed a draft of proposed bylaws and asked staff to make revisions after raising concerns about the board's name and documentation.
John Schimke, representing the Agricultural Society, said the society has historically been referred to as the “Fair Board,” and raised concern that the proposed board name duplicates that usage and has caused confusion. The board discussed other portions of the draft bylaws and agreed on edits to clarify roles and terminology. Lisa Sagala, Controller/Administrator, said she would “make all the changes as discussed and forward a revised draft copy to the group for the next meeting.”
Board members also asked that records be gathered to clarify long‑standing administrative practices. Duane Anderson questioned Schimke about the size of the Agricultural Society board; Schimke estimated it is about 15 members. Sagala noted a 1986 resolution by the Board of Commissioners affecting officer approvals and requested that a copy of the deed for the property and a copy of the Agricultural Society’s bylaws be included in the packet for the next meeting.
The board agreed that an Executive Board will be formed after the bylaws are finalized. No formal motion or vote was recorded in the minutes on the bylaws or the records request at this meeting. The board will consider the revised draft and the requested documents at its next regularly scheduled meeting.
