Cass County schedules July hearing to consider turning three roads over to Turtle Lake Township

County Engineer Darrick Anderson asked the Board to establish a public hearing to consider revocation of CR 124 (approximately 5.0 miles, including 1.1 miles paved and 3.9 miles gravel with 2023 average daily traffic counts of 120 on the paved section and 58 on the east gravel section), CR 153 (2.2 miles; 2023 ADT 256), and a portion of CSAH 72 (about 0.8 miles; 2023 ADT 305). Anderson said the roads were identified as township revocation candidates in the County’s 2024 Long Range Transportation Plan because they primarily serve local traffic.
Staff reported that Turtle Lake Township and county staff had drafted a Joint Powers Agreement to address future maintenance; the Board voted unanimously to schedule a public hearing for July 21, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. in Turtle Lake Township, where residents may comment on the proposed revocations.
