Board tables Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department addition amid ownership questions

Commissioner Jason Shanks asked whether county sales tax proceeds could be used to fund a building addition at the south end of the Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department and whether such an addition would become county property. District Attorney Brian Hermanson raised a separate concern, noting "the fire department does not own the property on which the station is located, as it is owned by an outside landowner. He also stated that if the addition were included in the county inventory, it could appear to be county-owned." Given that uncertainty, the Board voted to table soliciting bids for further review.
