Huachuca City council backs active code enforcement despite potential legal costs

Town Manager Suzanne Harvey told the council that residents at a recent CDBG meeting asked that the Town enforce code provisions to protect property values and safety. She said staff and police are prepared to pursue aggressive enforcement but cautioned, "we are prepared to be aggressive, but... some people may fight us on it and it may end up in court, so it may end up costing us some money."
Councilmembers discussed the trade-offs and agreed on active enforcement with an emphasis on equal application of the law. Mayor Johann Wallace confirmed the council's preference for active code enforcement going forward; staff will implement enforcement plans and return with any required legal or budgetary updates.
