Parents and residents urge sidewalks, finished path and traffic calming near school

Speakers asked the town to complete a pedestrian path connecting upper and lower Huachuca City to the library and Activity Center, add sidewalks near the school, and install speed bumps or signage to slow neighborhood speeding.
Residents and councilmembers urged safety improvements for children walking to school and for general neighborhood connectivity. Julian Barclay and others described an unfinished path between upper and lower Huachuca City and asked that it be completed to give students and residents a safer route to the library and Activity Center.
"It would be really nice if that one was actually like finished, because that'd be a really nice path that connects both things to each other and also give residents a direct access to the library," Julian said. Councilmember Danielle Cardella and other speakers recommended traffic calming such as speed bumps and signage on local streets and noted the need to repair the steep Skyline hill. SEAGO and staff suggested that sidewalks, pedestrian connections, and street repairs are typical eligible items for CDBG regional account or other infrastructure grants but that specific engineering estimates and project scopes are necessary for competitive applications.
The project ideas for pedestrian connections, sidewalks and traffic calming will be added to the compiled project list for council consideration and to inform any SSP or regional account application work.
