Residents ask Huachuca City to tackle goat‑head weeds, park maintenance and shade at pool

"I personally have been an advocate for trying to eliminate goat heads in our Town," Thompson said. Resident Steven Sherwood described volunteer options and noted he is enrolled in a master gardener class; Debra Trate asked for shade and artificial turf at the pool to reduce puncture injuries caused by goat heads. SEAGO’s William Osborne cautioned that while slum/blight abatement can be an eligible CDBG activity in some circumstances, routine maintenance is generally not an appropriate use of regional account funds unless tied to a defined blight‑reduction project with statutory criteria and clear public benefit.
Council will include park improvements and goat‑head removal among candidate projects for the record; staff and SEAGO recommended clarifying scope and whether the work fits blight abatement or a different funding source before pursuing a CDBG application.
