Commissioners hold first reading of ADU zoning ordinance; second reading set for Sept. 3

Jefferson County commissioners completed the first reading of an ordinance amending zoning code sections related to accessory dwelling units.
"This is the 1st reading of a properly noticed ordinance formalizing a plan amendment that the Board of County Commissioners approved last week," Community Development Director Derek Payne told the board, noting the ordinance text is unchanged from the Aug. 6 land‑use decision. The board moved, seconded and voted to read the ordinance by title only today and carry out the second reading.
The chair announced: "This concludes the 1st reading of the ordinance. The 2nd reading will take place on September 3 at 09:30AM in this meeting room." The second reading will allow final adoption following any required procedural steps and public notice.
