Community development director: 8,000‑acre Bukhar rezoning entered into DRI process

Community Development Director Mike Morton updated the council on building permits and major applications, including a large rezoning application for the Bukhar property. "As you can see, we issued 16 permits in November versus 21 a year ago... As you all know, we have received a rezoning application for the Bukhar property, 8,000 acres, as a mixed use hamlet. They are in the DRI process," Morton said.
Morton told the council the Bukhar project will go through the DRI (Development of Regional Impact) review and that it may be several months before the city schedules first public hearings. He also said the Serengb G lots rezoning (about 200 acres on Hutchison Ferry Road) and other mixed‑use hamlet applications are moving forward and that some will appear for first readings in January. Council members asked for baseline materials and agreed staff would distribute existing application documents to aid review under the moratorium adopted later in the meeting.
The update places several large land‑use matters on the council's near‑term agenda and frames upcoming public engagement and review requirements.
