District reports staffing, special-education coordination and near‑term enrollment numbers ahead of school start

Human resources and educational services gave several operational updates on July 28 as the district prepares to open the 2026–27 school year.
Doctor Harishu thanked special-education staff for summer preparation and said the district worked closely with SELPA partners to place 14 students into specialized programs outside the USD. Harishu noted program specialists, school psychologists and LCSWs return the week prior to school and credited Transportation, Business Services and MOT for logistics. "Our students and their IEP documents have been rolled up into our student information system and appropriate staff have access and could begin implementing IEPs, right away upon the return," Harishu said.
HR reported approximately 22 new certificated hires, mostly at middle and high school levels. On enrollment, the district reported 9,006 students currently enrolled — 23 fewer than this date last year but 125 above certain projection models; the budgeted projection remains 9,149. Staff said they will continue to monitor daily enrollment and may revise budget assumptions if trends shift.
