District warns of cyberattacks, readies Chromebook carts as elementary devices stay on campus

Technology and innovation staff told the board on July 28 that the district is seeing an increase in both phishing attempts and direct network attacks this month and has ramped up defenses.
"July has brought a lot of things. Unfortunately, some of those things are an increase in cyberattacks...It started off with some phishing attacks...we're all just getting hit right now," Greg Gazzanian said, acknowledging the work of IT staff in defending the network. Gazzanian said the district has fended off many attempts and continues to update defenses and servers.
He also reported an operational change for elementary classrooms: the district will not send elementary Chromebooks home this school year. Technicians have been building Chromebook carts to keep devices on site and will deliver carts and devices to campuses before school begins. The change aims to address logistics and device management while preserving classroom access to technology.
