District outlines $9M in one-time funds and special-education increase for 2026–27 budget

At the July 28 board meeting, Business Services provided a verbal update on the 2026–27 budget pending formal adjustments to be reflected in the district's first interim report.
Mister Esselstyn told trustees the district expects two blocks of one-time funding totaling approximately $9,000,000. "We now believe we're fairly certain that it'll be about $9,000,000 total," he said. He said approximately $8,400,000 is the Student Support Professional Development block grant (six years to spend) and the updated Learning Recovery Emergency block grant is about $650,000 (two years to spend). Esselstyn added the district already has an estimated $3,800,000 increase in special-education funding included in the budget and noted a small lottery allocation increase of about $18,000 that will be incorporated at first interim.
Staff explained that because of state-level timing and county accounting constraints, the district will present these adjustments in the December interim report after formal calculations are finalized. Board members asked about projection methods and enrollment assumptions that feed the budget model; staff said they are reviewing demographic models and may incorporate new predictive analytics in the fall.
