Commissioners postpone decision on juvenile detention-transport contract citing need for review

The Cleveland County Board of County Commissioners voted May 12, 2025, to postpone action on a proposed transportation contract with Oklahoma Juvenile Affairs (OJA) that would reimburse the county for secure juvenile transports. Commissioner Rod Cleveland moved to postpone and Commissioner Rusty Grissom seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The contract under discussion would allow OJA to pay the County Sheriff’s Office or its designee for secure transportation to and from secure detention for admission, transfer, discharge, medical or dental attention, court appearances or placements designated by OJA. The county would be reimbursed for personal services at the rate referenced in 10A O.S. §2-3-103 (noted in the minutes as currently $17.00 per hour), mileage at the State Travel Reimbursement Act rate, and meal reimbursements capped at $10.00 per meal for staff and juveniles. The Board did not adopt the contract and postponed final action to a later date for further review.
