Wayne County Mental Health department seeks billing consultant and considers stronger security after safety concerns

Sharon MacDougall, Director of Mental Health, told the Health and Medical Services Committee on March 2 that the department is working to resolve persistent electronic billing problems and is collaborating with Purchasing and IT to develop an RFP to hire a consultant to update the system. She said January productivity was lower than expected due to snow days and staff and client illnesses.
MacDougall also said the department’s overall risk level is increasing and recommended safety improvements. County Administrator Mark Humbert confirmed discussions about enhanced building security including keeping doors locked, installing additional cameras and video monitoring, and possibly adding a security scanner like those used in court facilities; the Sheriff recommended adding a security guard. Public Health and Aging and Youth staff present supported taking extra measures to protect employees.
