Kearney swears in Police Chief Gabe Kualik and Officer Gavin West

Mayor Nicola administered the oath of office to Gabe Kualik, officially swearing him in as chief of police for Kearney.
Chief Kualik, who told the council he was "just beyond grateful and blessed" to serve, pledged to support officers with training and equipment and to "do everything I can to keep [the city] safe, keep it a high quality place to live, and earn your trust." He praised partnerships with the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, the Nebraska State Patrol and federal partners and thanked City Manager Brenda Jackson and council members for their support.
Kualik introduced Officer Gavin West, who also took the oath and received congratulations from council members and staff. The brief public ceremony included badge pinning and remarks thanking family and former mentors.
