VDOT seeks Board resolution for rural rustic plan; staff praise I‑81 bridge repair coordination

Ed Carter, representing the Virginia Department of Transportation, reviewed the county’s rural rustic program and said the plan must be approved annually. He outlined the six‑year ranking process for projects, funding sources and eligibility rules and said a public hearing and Board resolution are required before June 15 for the next six‑year plan.
"Mr. Jeff Boyer has been working with over 10 agencies and over 100 people since November to coordinate this event," Carter said when asked about the recent I‑81 southbound shutdown for a bridge repair, and described the closure as well coordinated. Vice Chairman Dennis Morris praised the interagency cooperation. Matt Smith provided estimated allocations for the next six years and described two upcoming projects that will be carried forward once the Board completes the required public hearing and resolution.
The Board took the presentation and directed staff to schedule the public hearing and prepare the resolution; no final project approvals were made at this meeting.
