Salem supervisors approve $200,349.60 in bills, hire full‑time road crew worker

The Salem Township Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Feb. 18 to approve $200,349.60 in expenditures for the month, the board recorded in its minutes.
The approved totals include $124,177.62 from the General Fund and $50,892.53 for payroll; smaller allocations covered Liquid Fuels ($21,681.74), Machinery ($2,273.17), Sewage ($825.00) and Street Lights ($499.54). Supervisors Kerry Jobe, Bob Zundel and Todd Paulich all voted for the motion.
The board also authorized several procurement steps. After reviewing the budget, Supervisor Todd Paulich said he preferred buying a new tractor and boom mower but "wouldn't be an option this year," prompting the board to advertise for a used machine. The supervisors approved a $17,000 letter of intent to buy a 2000 Ford truck from the Borough of Homestead through an intergovernmental agreement for use by Emergency Management and the Code Enforcement Officer.
In personnel action, the board unanimously approved hiring Blaise Defrances as a full‑time road crew employee. The supervisors additionally approved reimbursing the Recreation Board $2,000 from Act 13 funds to pay for a port‑a‑john at park events.
The actions were recorded as routine motions and passed without dissent; the board said several items will be returned for additional planning or bidding as needed.
