Sheriff Eric DeBoer used the board meeting's opening minutes to recognize multiple Ottawa County Sheriff's Office employees for investigations and lifesaving responses. He singled out detectives Cyslinski and Willard for their work on a case assigned 07/18/2025 that was initially reported as manufacturing of abusive material; their follow-up, warrant work and seizure of devices led to confessions and identification of an additional victim.
"For these reasons, it is my distinct honor to present the sheriff's commendation to detective Cyslinski's and, detective Willard," DeBoer said, detailing the investigative steps that led to preserved digital and physical evidence. DeBoer also described several life-saving responses: Sergeant Reich's use of an AED and Narcan during a medical emergency; deputies Hausman, Zaragoza and Vanden Bosch's coordinated CPR and AED deployment on 11/11/2025; and Deputy Sabri's tourniquet application on 12/07/2025 that stabilized a gunshot victim.
DeBoer emphasized timely evidence preservation and interagency coordination, noting that prompt seizures and warrants protected investigative leads. The board thanked the sheriff and the deputies, and the meeting proceeded to its scheduled agenda items.
