Resident urges McKinney to clarify airport staffing, equipment and subsidy plans

Chuck Van Zandt, a McKinney resident, spoke during the public-comment period about the airport terminal project and raised operational and cost questions for the city to address before commercial service begins.
Van Zandt said published projections referenced up to three flights per day in year one and an average of seven per day by year three, using a Boeing 737-800-sized airplane. He asked whether the city will provide or staff Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) capabilities and whether local police and fire employees will perform those duties. "Do we have police and fire, and are the city of, McKinney employees from their respective disciplines going to man those positions?" Van Zandt asked. He also estimated that ground-support equipment such as pushback tractors, air stairs, start units, belt loaders and baggage carts could total about $1,500,000 and asked how much the city might be required to pay to augment an airline to make service profitable.
The public comment was acknowledged by meeting staff and recorded in the meeting minutes; council and CDC proceeded to the financing items without an immediate operational response in the same session.
