Crater Community Hospice asks Dinwiddie supervisors for $5,000 to expand outreach

Natalie Sierra, director of development for Crater Community Hospice, told the Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors on April 7 that the nonprofit was seeking a one-time $5,000 contribution to expand outreach and education so families learn about hospice services earlier in the course of illness. Sierra said the organization served more than 32 local residents over the past year and has served nine so far this year.
Physician liaison Bill Humphrey described his outreach work aimed at younger caregivers and said his goal is to help families “avoid caregiver crises” by encouraging earlier planning and connection to resources. The presentation noted Crater Community Hospice’s 30-year presence in the region and a recent expansion into the Richmond area; the board received the request during the Outside Agency Reports portion of the meeting. No formal action on the funding request is recorded in the minutes.
