Board Discusses WSSDA Assembly Proposals; Chambers to Abstain on Parents-as-Primary Proposal

Mark Chambers told the board he will attend the Washington State School Directors Association (WSSDA) General Assembly on Sept. 20 and asked for guidance on several handbook proposals listed in the WSSDA Assembly 2025 handbook. The board reviewed items including a budget-stability amendment, consolidation of federal funding positions and a proposal that would name parents the primary stakeholders in children’s education.
On the parents-as-primary-stakeholder proposal, Superintendent Ingrid Colvard recommended soliciting community input before taking a position; the transcript records that "Mark Chambers will abstain from this vote." The board also agreed to oppose a proposed required governance training (Item 18) because the trainings are not funded by the state.
