District Reports Elevated Lead Results at WRMS; Remediation Plan to Be Presented

Superintendent Ingrid Colvard told the board that the Washington Department of Health recently tested water at Stevenson-Carson schools and that WRMS recorded numerous fixtures with lead readings "much higher than 5 ppb." "RCW28A.210.410 does not require remediation for fixtures testing at 5ppb and under," Colvard said, and the district has turned off water in areas of concern while staff develop a remediation plan.
Colvard said CES and SHS had only a few fixtures over 5 ppb, while WRMS showed more widespread exceedances. Ed Farrell has been assigned to draft and present a plan to remediate affected fixtures at the next scheduled board meeting; the board did not take a vote at the Sept. 11 meeting.
