Commissioner Jason Shanks raised a proposal to solicit bids for a building addition at the south end of the Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department and specifically questioned whether county sales tax proceeds could be used and whether a completed building would become county inventory. Shanks said he lacked technical certainty on the funding mechanism; District Attorney Brian Hermanson told the board he would review the ballot language to clarify allowable uses of the sales tax proceeds.
After further discussion the board rescinded the solicitation motion and voted to table the item to allow time for DA Hermanson’s legal review. Chairman Jeff Kreger, Commissioner Shane Jones and Commissioner Jason Shanks voted unanimously to rescind and then to table the matter. The DA’s guidance was recorded as the next step; no funds were committed at the meeting.
