District Attorney asks for extra attorney, wants investigator pay tied to sheriff sergeant scale

The District Attorney told the committee his office needs an additional attorney to handle increased intake, juvenile dockets and statutory obligations to review bonds under recent legislation. He said current grand-jury and intake work occurs outside regular hours and that trial teams recently received needed support, but intake and juvenile workloads remain heavy.
On investigator pay, the DA proposed aligning DA investigator salaries with a sheriff-sergeant pay level to avoid losing qualified candidates to the sheriff's office. He said the difference is "about 5,000 and some odd dollars behind per DA investigator to that sergeant slot" and asked the committee to consider pinning investigators to that band. He also suggested creating a $2,000 certification pay for victim-assistance coordinators funded by reallocating small line items within existing budgets to encourage retention and higher qualifications.
