Parker County budget committee praises prior process, keeps role advisory

The Parker County Budget Committee met in special session June 26 to review last year's process and confirm goals for the upcoming budget cycle. Commissioner Holt, who opened the meeting, described the committee as a recommendation body and asked members to reflect on what went well and what could be improved.
Committee membership, as listed by Commissioner Holt, includes the commissioners, Sheriff Russell Authier, District Attorney Jeff Swain, Richard Heizer (public representative) and Becky McCullough (treasurer and HR director). Holt said the committee's purpose is "to take a holistic look at the new personnel and new capital expenses that were requested" and to provide scored recommendations back to the full Commissioners Court. "This is a recommendation body only," he said.
Members credited the committee with streamlining the court's workload. Commissioner Walden said the group helped prevent inflated requests and allowed the court to focus on actual needs; Richard Heizer, the public representative on the committee, said he valued the added transparency. The Clerk noted that meetings are now streamed so the public can observe the review process.
The committee did not take binding action at the session and agreed to carry recommendations to the regular Commissioners Court and to the county's budget workshops for final decisions.
