Organizers preview Goonies 40th weekend; ask Astoria for volunteers and planning support

Matt Burns of the Clatsop County Historical Society and Amy Faulkner of event producer Gilly Wagon presented plans for a three-day Goonies 40th celebration June 6'8, asking the council and community to prepare for sizable visitor turnout.
"We're calling it Goonies 40th...we're hiring a company called Gilly Wagon," Burns said, noting the film museum and the historical society are taking the lead on planning after past anniversaries drew visitors from around the world. Faulkner said the events will be organized to reduce neighborhood impacts and that organizers will post planning details and volunteer opportunities at gooniesweekend.com.
Councilors pressed organizers on turnout and neighborhood mitigation. Faulkner said attendance is uncertain—the 30th reportedly drew 10,000'12,000 fans, while off-years see far fewer—and described neighborhood protections used previously: volunteers, portable restrooms, trash containers, flaggers and parking permits. Councilors asked for clearer volunteer counts and for organizers to return with specific plans; Faulkner said staffing, shuttle plans and security details should be announced in the next month or two.
