Kara Owen, general manager of Skamania Lodge, spoke in opposition to the campground proposal, stating it "was not compatible with Single Residential zoning" and raising questions about septic installation, pending sewer hookups, stormwater management, fire protection, site management, sanitation facilities and lighting. Resident Mary Repar also opposed the request, saying the proposal did not conform to the residential zoning of the area.
Planning staff responded with technical clarifications: City Attorney Muth said the ordinance requires properties abutting a sewer line to connect, and that the nearest sewer line to the site was "approximately 1,200' away." Planner II Mandy Hertel told the Commission the site was considered low impact with no tree clearing or grading required and that a SEPA checklist was not necessary because no critical areas were present. The Commission took no vote and requested further information.
