Johns Creek holds public hearing on 2025 millage rate as digest grows 5.25%

Johns Creek held a public hearing on the proposed 2025 millage rate during which Assistant City Manager Kaye delivered a detailed presentation on how the tax digest, assessed values and millage rates determine property-tax bills.
Kaye told the council and the public that Fulton County provided a preliminary tax digest of $6,520,000,000, an increase of $326,000,000 (5.25%) over 2024. "The advertised millage rate for the city is 3.646 mills, which was the 2024 rate," Kaye said. She added that the digest growth is composed of reassessments and new growth; staff reported about $276,000,000 from reassessments and roughly $50,000,000 from new growth.
The presentation noted that property-tax revenue represents about 27% of the city's general fund and supports services such as police, fire, capital projects and council strategic priorities. Kaye also explained that millage rates are expressed as dollars per $1,000 of net assessed value and provided an illustrative example showing how mills convert to dollars for a homeowner.
The council was reminded that this was the second of the public hearings on the millage and that a final adoption vote is scheduled for July 28 at 7 p.m. during the regular council meeting. Residents were urged to attend or submit comments before that meeting.
