Council approves outreach framework for PAC bond education—meetings, website, mailers, social media
Summary
Council set a preliminary outreach plan for the proposed performing arts center bond: community meetings (1 in Aug., 2 in Sept., 2 in Oct.), a dedicated web page linked from the city site, weekly social-media posts, and two mailed pieces (one early and one pre-election). Staff will craft neutral FAQs and coordinate review with the city attorney and bond counsel.

Staff presented five outreach levers for the proposed performing arts center bond referendum—community meetings, stakeholder meetings, a web presence, social media and mailed collateral—and asked council how vigorously to pursue each option. "There are 5 ways that you can dial up or dial back that effort," City Manager Greer said, asking council to choose levels under each category.
Council members recommended a robust but neutral education effort. One council member urged early correction of misinformation on social media and supported mailed collateral: "There's already stuff flying around on social media that doesn't seem very accurate," the council member said. Council suggested a schedule of community meetings (one in August, two in September and two in October), accepted invitations to stakeholder meetings, adding a dedicated PAC webpage (linked from johnscreekga.gov), weekly social posts, and two mailings (one as soon as possible and one before the election).
Council also recommended FAQ sections that cover construction timelines, contingency and budget oversight, parking availability and operational costs. Staff said they will prepare neutral language and route materials to the city attorney and bond counsel to avoid advocacy: "The attorney will review and then bond counsel will review," Greer said. The council asked staff to return with the materials and to use the 2016 parks outreach as a template where helpful.
