Aspen council backs $150,000 local match for $2 million airport planning grant

The Aspen City Council voted Jan. 14 to support using $150,000 of an existing EOTC contingency as Aspen's portion of a required local match for a $2,000,000 federal RAISE planning grant led by Pitkin County. City Manager Sarah told council the grant would fund a regional planning study of movements to, from and around the Aspen Airport and noted the county is the lead agency.
"The $2,000,000 is a planning grant to sort out how people are moving to, from and around the airport," Sarah said. She explained the grant requires a 10% local match and that the city's EOTC contingency in the 2025 EOTC budget contains funds that could serve as part of that match. Councilor Ward moved to recommend the $150,000 expenditure and the motion carried on a roll call vote with all members present voting in favor.
