Solid waste provider presents $1.375 million FY2027 operating share for Gooding County

Nate Francisco of Southern Idaho Solid Waste told the Gooding County Board of Commissioners that the county’s share for operating the regional solid waste system in FY2027 is $1,375,081.00. He said the budget includes cost increases and that staff are evaluating capital options to improve efficiency, including a shredder machine or a shredder loader bucket.
"The current site has longevity of another fifty years and they are working on a longer-term plan that might involve land south of Twin Falls," Francisco said, describing both near-term operating needs and a possible future relocation. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about cost drivers and potential capital trade-offs; Francisco said the proposal balances shorter-term operating pressures with investments that could reduce per-ton costs over time. The Board did not take a vote on the proposal at this meeting; the presentation will feed into ongoing FY2027 budget deliberations.
