Sheriff reports staffing vacancies, E911 hire and communications procurement plans

Sheriff Frank Ryan reported to the committee that corrections staffing currently shows four vacancies, up from earlier counts, and that an anticipated retirement at the end of June would increase vacancies unless filled. "4 vacancies, not 3," Ryan said as he discussed staffing levels. He said the sheriff's office has a trip planned to Greene County and a meeting in Albany with the state commissioner of corrections.
On dispatch and communications, Ryan said E911 recently learned that its last candidate passed the psychological test and accepted a position, bringing the dispatch unit to full staffing for the moment. The sheriff also said bids have been solicited for grant-funded purchases such as generators and backup equipment, and that the office is considering buying more economical pickup trucks for animal control to save money. The committee reviewed these updates and raised no objections to moving related resolutions to the legislative meeting.
