Probation staff outline Alternatives to Incarceration program, ask county to recognize supervision week

Probation Assistant Kate Brown and Brittany Heysler presented the committee with an overview of the Alternatives to Incarceration (ATI) program and proposed a county recognition for Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week July 19–25, 2026. Brown said probation took over ATI in 2008 and described community service as the program's largest component, with roughly 30 placement sites currently available. "Currently 30 placement sites" and "Completion rate is about 87%," Brown said when describing placements and overall completion.
The staff explained how community service placements are screened for medical or mental-health issues, that pre-sentence and pre-plea investigations are performed, and that pretrial check-ins and electronic home monitoring (including SCRAM devices) are part of the ATI offerings. The committee discussed the resolution to recognize the supervision week and, after edits and discussion, raised no objections to forwarding it to the legislative meeting.
