Yates County district attorney cites data corrections and staffing gap, proposes helmet-encouragement outreach

District Attorney Todd Casella told the Public Safety Committee that he adjusted case totals and provided corrected month and 12-month figures to the committee. He said the ADA position in his office is still vacant and that he is coordinating with human resources to expand advertising for the role. "ADA position remains vacant," Casella reported.

Casella also outlined a community outreach idea to promote bicycle safety: partnering with a local business to distribute free-ice-cream coupons to children who wear helmets and asking deputies to hand out coupons as a positive reinforcement measure. He said the county can treat outreach as a mix of reward and deterrence and that overtime payment for secured prisoner transport will be addressed in next year's budget rather than through the current resolution process.
