Fort Myers council certifies Nov. 5 election; Diana Geraldo and Liston (Bouchette/Buschak) declared winners

Mayor Anderson opened a special Fort Myers City Council meeting on Nov. 18, 2024 and the council adopted Resolution No. 2024-133 to formally canvass and announce the results of the Nov. 5 city council election. City Attorney Ali read the resolution title, and Deputy City Clerk Lily Baker presented the official vote totals.

Baker read the ward results: "For the city of Fort Myers city council ward 2, the whole number of votes cast was 4,339 with Diana Geraldo, obtaining 2,426 votes at 55.91% and Jacqueline McMiller at 1,913 votes at 44.09%." For Ward 4 she read, "...the whole number of votes cast was 4,849 with Cindy Beignet, obtaining 2,386 votes at 49.21% and Liston Bouchette at 2,463 votes at 50.79%." The clerk also noted that Councilperson Darla Blanca ran unopposed at the time of qualifying and that all members will begin four‑year terms effective that day.

After the clerk's report Mayor Anderson called for a motion. The chair recorded the motion as made by Councilmember Burson and seconded by Councilmember Streets; hearing no opposition the mayor announced the motion carried and the council adopted the resolution. The transcript includes two different spellings for the Ward 4 winner (Bouchette and Buschak); the council’s minutes list the names as read by the clerk and the resolution number for this action is 2024-133.

The adoption of Resolution 2024-133 completes the formal canvass required by the city charter (article cited during the meeting) and enacts the council’s public confirmation of the city election winners.
