Elementary principal reports drop in discipline, new reward plan and February events

Elementary Principal Lilly Martin told the Tonasket School Board about enrollment and programming updates at the Jan. 28 meeting. She outlined February events including School Counselors Week, the Jump Rope for Heart Challenge and 'Math is Cool,' and said the elementary staff will use in-house professional development focused on Math, Reading and GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) strategies for English-language learners.
Martin reported that "discipline issues had decreased significantly from last year" and described a new, schoolwide positive-reward goal: each staff member will distribute 15 'paws' per day to recognize positive behavior. She also noted the elementary PTO is hosting a Valentine's-themed bingo night on Friday the 13th.
