Middle and high school principals review SBAC results, new staff and student supports

Middle- and high-school leaders presented assessment results and program updates at the Sept. 25 meeting. Trisha Roach, middle school principal, reviewed the MS spring SBAC testing scores and said the leadership team is examining approaches used by nearby schools. Roach highlighted a new MS math teacher, near-completion of iReady testing, a good-behavior competition that rewards early lunch release, and a locally founded '7 Seconds' program intended to prompt brief student check-ins.
Irving Smith, high school principal, reviewed last spring's SBAC data, reported strong turnout for freshman and senior orientations and visits from college and military representatives, and noted a College and Career Expo scheduled at the Okanogan Agri Plex. Smith also described a child study team and recent early-release staff time devoted to strategies for supporting high-needs students. He attended a conference at the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office that introduced services available to school districts and reiterated the role of teachers as mandatory reporters.
