Committee approves Legends Drive bond authorization and raises casino-boat surcharge

Staff presented an ordinance authorizing issuance and sale of not exceeding $2,500,000 in general obligation bonds for road, drainage and public-works improvements inside the Legends Drive Special Tax District; staff said engineering costs remain under final review and the ordinance will be amended if costs exceed the referenced amount.
On gambling-boat surcharges, staff said the county's surcharge—set at $7 per passenger under the 2015 ordinance—was renegotiated with operators. "We're going up an additional $5, so it'll be a $15 surcharge, starting in 2025," staff said, noting the surcharge will rise to $18 in 2030; staff reported last year the county collected $877,000 and estimated $1.3 million if boardings are unchanged. The committee approved both items by voice vote.
