At the Jan. 21 meeting, Salem Township supervisors acknowledged a $350,000 Local Share Account (LSA) grant award for the Tucker Road waterline extension and authorized the scope of the project to match that award. The board also voted to approve a $12,000 proposal from Morris Knowles & Associates for engineering services for the Kennan Drive waterline extension.
Supervisor Kerry Jobe told residents the township had previously applied for multiple projects and that the Apple/Tower Lanes extension received a Small Sewer and Water award of about $340,000 toward a roughly $400,000 project. Residents from Kennan Drive said the estimated cost had risen sharply since 2015; Greg Bosich said the 2015 estimate was $188,000 and has since exceeded $500,000. Todd Paulich said township crews plan to run a waterline from Kennan to Orrs, hiring two or three part-time workers for the project, and estimated the work would take "3-4 months from the time work begins." He cautioned that the line will begin as low-pressure service.
The board approved motions to acknowledge the LSA award and to hire Morris Knowles & Associates for the Kennan engineering work with unanimous votes recorded.
