Commissioners highlight foster youth achievements, YouthWorks and community events

County Administrator Michael Colbert and Commissioners Mary McDonald, Judy Dodge and Carolyn Rice highlighted 13 foster youth graduates honored under the theme “Stronger than Yesterday,” promoted the YouthWorks program, urged composting to reduce food waste and noted flood storage of 3.8 billion gallons by the Miami Conservancy District and upcoming America250 events.
During the June 2 session, Administrator Michael Colbert recounted attending the Children Services Division’s Foster Youth Achievement Banquet where 13 foster youth graduates were recognized under the theme “Stronger than Yesterday.” Colbert thanked foster families, caregivers, educators, mentors and case workers and said each graduate received a proclamation from the Board.
Commissioner Mary A. McDonald praised Workforce Development’s YouthWorks program and urged local employers to participate, noting Montgomery County covers wages and insurance and provides job readiness training. McDonald also lauded the Miami Conservancy District’s response to recent heavy rainfall, saying the district stored “3.8 billion gallons of water” in regional dams. Commissioner Judy Dodge encouraged composting, stating that “approximately 40 percent of food in the United States is discarded each year.” Commissioner Carolyn Rice highlighted the county’s participation in America’s 250th activities and reminded residents about the Dayton Air Show on June 13–14.
