Horry County 4‑H ambassadors describe Cooking Capable program and growth of local clubs

"My name is Jennifer Prince, and I'm here representing Horry County 4 h as a club leader and as the current state 4 h volunteer of the year," Jennifer Prince said, noting registration opened on Sept. 1 and the county had 82 new members within 17 days. Program staff said there are five returning clubs and plans for two to three new clubs in the coming months.
State ambassador Ivy Prince told the council how 4‑H helped her found Cooking Capable at age 15. "Cooking Capable is a series of workshops designed to teach those in the special needs community how to make simple, affordable, nutritious ... meals," she said, describing recent workshops (the seventh on Sept. 4 and an eighth planned the following week) and the program's role in empowering participants to cook independently.
Braden Lohrey and volunteer parent April Laurie described ambassador experiences, training and volunteer support. Presenters asked the council to continue support for local club activities and partnerships that let youth attend conferences, trainings and legislative day events in Columbia and beyond.
