Horry County Fire Department highlights Fire Prevention Week, installs smoke alarms and cites community outreach

Martin Nugent, community risk reduction officer, emphasized smoke-alarm installation and prevention work: "Our department puts up over 1000 smoke alarms, every year," he said, and noted partnerships with schools, the university and community groups.
Nugent also highlighted that department outreach events recently engaged thousands of residents and that Horry County has received awards for public-education efforts. The committee thanked staff for mutual-aid service and community prevention work.
