County proclaims May 2026 ALS Awareness Month after presentation from ALS United Ohio

Erica Bock, Community Impact and Engagement Manager for ALS United Ohio, told the Board of County Commissioners that amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is "currently incurable and typically progresses rapidly," describing the disease as a fatal neurodegenerative condition that leads to loss of muscle function and, ultimately, death.
Commissioner Carolyn Rice presented a proclamation recognizing May 2026 as ALS Awareness Month and May 30, 2026 as ALS Awareness Day in Montgomery County. The proclamation and presentation highlighted ALS United Ohio’s priorities: advancing research toward treatments and cures, advocacy for funding and policy at state and federal levels, and local care services including case management, equipment assistance and reimbursement grants of up to $1,200 per patient per year for disease‑related expenses. Erica Bock accepted the proclamation and posed for photographs with the commissioners and County Administrator Michael Colbert.
